Homebound seniors in Bernalillo and Placitas just got a new lifeline: Meals on Wheels New Mexico is rolling out a weekday delivery route to both communities, stretching its reach beyond Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Corrales.

The face-to-face delivery service doesn’t just drop off food — drivers check in on residents’ wellbeing and offer a friendly conversation, according to the organization. Meals can also be medically tailored for seniors managing chronic health conditions.

“We’re excited to expand our delivery route and provide a caring check-in to even more individuals throughout the state,” said Shauna Frost, CEO of Meals on Wheels New Mexico, crediting volunteers, donors and community partners for making the growth possible.

Meals on Wheels New Mexico needs local volunteers to deliver meals and run wellness checks in Bernalillo and Placitas. Residents who need meal assistance can find eligibility details on the organization’s website.
