One dead, two injured in weekend crash on NM 528

A Saturday morning crash at NM 528 and Corrales Road killed one person and seriously injured two others.

A two-vehicle crash at NM Highway 528 and Corrales Road Saturday morning killed one person and left two others hospitalized, according to the Rio Rancho Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on April 4, according to a Rio Rancho Police Department supplemental crash report. One vehicle rolled toward a nearby Speedway gas station, scattering debris across the roadway. One person was declared deceased at the scene; two others were transported to the hospital.

Police closed multiple southbound lanes of NM 528 while investigators worked the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the department’s traffic investigation team, which will conduct a full crash reconstruction.

A family friend said one of the injured — a young woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles — sustained serious injuries, including three broken vertebrae, a broken arm and broken ankles. She underwent back surgery Saturday and was scheduled for ankle surgery Sunday.

“She has a long road to recovery,” the family friend posted on social media. “But thank God she survived.”
