Rio Rancho drivers tired of squeezing through Northern Boulevard’s current lanes will get their first look at the finished expansion design during a virtual public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m.
The city, working with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, will walk residents through the completed design for widening Northern Blvd to four lanes between Acal Place and Broadmoor Boulevard — introductions start at 6 p.m., the presentation at 6:10, and a live Q&A runs from 6:30 to 7.
The $1.7 million design project has been in the works since June 2021 and is slated to wrap by December, according to the city. Beyond adding lanes, the project bakes in sidewalks, bike lanes and updated water, sewer and drainage lines along the corridor. Written comments are being accepted through Oct. 9.
Residents who can’t make the virtual meeting can still find project updates, maps and contact information on the city’s website afterward.
